Poland Enters Top 20 Global Economies With $1 Trillion Income

Poland has surpassed $1 trillion in national income, shifting its economic strategy from low labor costs toward productivity and technology to sustain growth.

Poland has transitioned from a Soviet-era economy to one of the world's 20 largest economies, with its national income surpassing $1 trillion last year. The country achieved the fastest global rate of income convergence with Western levels, rising from 40% of the European Union average in the mid-1990s to 81% last year. This growth is symbolized by the rise of global firms like ElevenLabs and CD Projekt Red, as well as the construction of the Varso tower, the tallest building in the EU.

Rafał Brzoska, founder of InPost, warns that the nation can no longer rely on low labor costs to compete. He argues that future growth depends on prioritizing productivity, technology, cheaper energy, and better regulation to move toward higher-value-added services.

While the economic trajectory is positive, Poland faces internal challenges. High income inequality and rising living costs in Warsaw persist alongside a sharp political divide between Prime Minister Donald Tusk's liberal government and President Karol Nawrocki. Despite these tensions, business leaders note a psychological shift in the workforce, observing that younger generations no longer suffer from the inferiority complex that characterized the early post-communist era.
