General Motors to Launch Eyes-Off Highway Driving by 2028
General Motors CEO Mary Barra announced that the Cadillac Escalade IQ will feature eyes-off-the-road highway driving capabilities starting in 2028.
Mary Barra, CEO of General Motors, announced that the company will introduce eyes-off-the-road highway driving for the Cadillac Escalade IQ in 2028. This technology will enable drivers to remove both their hands from the steering wheel and their feet from the pedals, a move Barra described as the start of the transition toward full autonomy.
While introducing the new feature, Barra addressed the broader electric-vehicle market, noting that adoption has slowed because of stubborn consumer habits and the removal of government incentives. She stated she is "done making predictions" regarding the specific timeline of the electric-vehicle revolution.
Despite these market headwinds, Barra maintained that the shift to electric power remains the "endgame" for General Motors and asserted that the current challenges have not shifted the company's mission.
