Joint Awami Action Committee Demands UN Probe Into Kashmir Crackdown

The Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC) has called for an immediate independent investigation by the United Nations and international human rights organizations following a brutal crackdown by Pakistani security forces in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). The group released video evidence allegedly showing forces assaulting an unarmed civilian in Muzaffarabad and reported that more than 50 people were killed and hundreds injured over a four-day period.

Violence escalated during a midnight crackdown that resulted in at least 40 deaths, with heavy firing reported in Rawalakot as women and children joined demonstrations. These protests, including a long march that began on June 9, intensified following elections that opposition leaders describe as heavily manipulated. The Pakistan Peoples Party has accused the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz of colluding with the Pakistan Army to rig the vote.

Protesters allege that Field Marshal Asim Munir is attempting to install a military-aligned leader to tighten control over the region. While the government of Pakistan continues to deploy security personnel and conduct intermittent firing to disperse crowds, demonstrators have announced plans to march toward Muzaffarabad to demand fundamental rights and justice.
