Oxfordshire Conservatives Demand Toyah Overton Resign Over Residency

Oxfordshire Conservatives are calling for Councillor Toyah Overton to resign after alleging she moved to Wales while representing her Oxfordshire ward.

The Oxfordshire Conservatives are demanding the resignation of County Councillor Toyah Overton, alleging she moved to Wales after becoming a campaign organiser for the Pembrokeshire Liberal Democrats. Overton denies the claims, stating her remote work does not hinder her representation of the Brize Norton and Carterton East ward. She cited health issues, including a severe allergy and a dislocated hip, as reasons for her limited activity.

The dispute escalated when the Witney and West Oxfordshire Liberal Democrats released attendance data for Carterton Town Council meetings. The data showed Overton attended 58% of meetings, while Conservative councillors Nicholas Field-Johnson and Ted Fenton attended 25% and 17%, respectively. The Liberal Democrats characterized the situation as a double standard for the opposing party.

Liam Walker, leader of the Oxfordshire Conservatives, dismissed the attendance data as political point-scoring. He noted that Councillor Fenton has been undergoing chemotherapy and Councillor Field-Johnson manages 13 parish councils. The resolution of the residency dispute is significant as the Liberal Democrats currently hold a one-seat majority on the Oxfordshire County Council.
