Josh Shapiro Ranks Seventh in 2028 Democratic Primary Poll

Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro ranked seventh among potential 2028 Democratic presidential candidates in a new Emerson College national poll.

An Emerson College poll released Thursday shows Josh Shapiro ranking seventh among potential Democratic candidates for the 2028 presidential primary. Approximately 5% of the 353 Democrats surveyed expressed support for the Pennsylvania governor.

Shapiro trails several other figures in the rankings, including Pete Buttigieg, Gavin Newsom, Jon Ossoff, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Kamala Harris, and Andy Beshear. This result marks a decline for Shapiro, who ranked fifth in a similar poll conducted in July 2025.

The governor has not announced a candidacy for the 2028 election. His current national profile follows his prominence during the 2024 election cycle, when he was considered for the vice presidency before Kamala Harris selected Tim Walz.

The survey included a total of 1,100 participants, consisting of 353 Democrats, 371 Republicans, and 376 independents or members of other parties.
