Edgar Flores Elected Nevada Senate Democratic Majority Leader

Edgar Flores won election as the Nevada Senate Democratic Majority Leader, succeeding Nicole Cannizzaro ahead of the February legislative session.

The Nevada Senate Democratic Caucus elected Edgar Flores as the new Senate Majority Leader on Thursday. Flores, an immigration attorney and state senator for Clark County's 2nd District, succeeds Nicole Cannizzaro, who is transitioning to the role of Nevada attorney general next year.

Flores intends to prioritize public school investment, healthcare, affordable housing, and economic solutions for working-class residents. He will collaborate with the Assembly and Governor-elect Aaron Ford for the legislative session starting February 1. Flores stated he is "excited to get to Carson City" to work toward building a state where every community has the resources to thrive.

The leadership transition follows a midterm election cycle in which Democrats secured full control of Nevada's executive and legislative branches, including a two-thirds supermajority in the Assembly.
