Apple Launches iPhone 18 Pro and First Folding Phone

Apple Inc. launched the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, and the iPhone Duo, the company's first folding phone, on September 18, 2026. The new Pro models feature the A20 Pro 2nm processor with 12GB of RAM, a doubled neural engine, and a 7-core GPU. Performance benchmarks show a substantial leap over the iPhone 17 Pro and Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra in CPU and graphics, though AI processing scores still trail Samsung.

Hardware updates include a shift from titanium to an aluminum unibody, increasing the iPhone 18 Pro's weight to 211 grams. The Pro model features a 6.3-inch OLED display with 3,000 nits peak brightness, while the Pro Max utilizes a 6.9-inch Super Retina XDR OLED display. Both models introduce a smaller Dynamic Island and a new Burgundy hero color, alongside Black, Glacier, and Silver options.

The camera system now employs a trio of 48MP lenses—main, ultra-wide, and 4x telephoto—with a mechanical variable aperture for improved light control. Video capabilities now reach 4K at 120 fps on the main camera. Battery life has increased, with the Pro Max offering up to 45 hours of use and a 5,567mAh battery.

Software updates include iOS 27 and the beta release of Siri AI, which offers expanded voice capabilities and camera integration. Prices have increased by £100, with the iPhone 18 Pro starting at $1,199 or £1,199, and the Pro Max starting at £1,299 or R31,299 in South Africa.
