The Ontario Ministry of Transportation scheduled a series of extensive highway closures for short-term and emergency repairs across several regions starting October 10, 2026. The initial phase of work targeted Durham, Halton, and York regions, involving 53 total closures. This included 26 closures in Durham, where the Ontario Provincial Police assisted with brief full closures of Highway 401, 20 closures in York, and seven in Halton.
On October 11, the ministry expanded the schedule to include 40 additional closures across Peel, Hamilton, and Halton regions. Peel region saw the highest volume of this second phase with 21 closures, followed by 12 in Hamilton and seven in Halton. Affected routes across all regions include the Queen Elizabeth Way, Highway 401, Highway 403, Highway 404, Highway 407 ETR, Highway 410, Highway 427, Highway 6, Highway 9, and Highway 10.
Most disruptions consist of nightly or continuous lane reductions, though some daily and intermittent closures are planned. The ministry noted that all schedules remain subject to change based on emergency factors and weather conditions.
