Aden Duale Vows to Prevent Corruption in Ebola Response

Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale pledged to block profiteering and denied reports of a 70 billion shilling allocation for the Bundibugyo Ebola outbreak.

Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale vowed to prevent corruption and profiteering during Kenya's response to the Bundibugyo Ebola virus outbreak. Speaking at the commissioning of a maternity wing in Meru County, Duale warned that there will be no "Ebola billionaires," a reference to the irregular procurement and mismanagement that occurred during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Duale dismissed reports that 70 billion shillings had been allocated for the outbreak, stating that procurement and spending would be closely monitored to protect public resources. The health crisis began on October 6 after a resident who had lived in the Democratic Republic of Congo traveled through Uganda to Nairobi. The patient died, and while health authorities confirmed further infections among linked contacts, they report no evidence of wider community transmission.

During the event at the Uruku Health Centre, Duale also rallied political support for President William Ruto and Deputy President Kithure Kindiki ahead of the 2027 General Election.
