Reimagine Robotics Launches Tool to Solve Training Data Gap

Reimagine Robotics, a startup founded by former Google DeepMind engineers, has emerged from stealth with a technology designed to address the robotics industry's critical training data shortage. CEO Jonathan Scholz describes a "monkey see, monkey do" approach that enables customers to act as robot teachers, instructing robot arms and assemblers by demonstrating actions and physically correcting the machine's movements.

This post-training method aims to bridge the "100,000-year data gap," which refers to the massive disparity between the data available for large language models and the limited real-world data available for robotics. By making robots adaptable for the staff who understand the actual work, the company seeks to prevent machines from becoming "expensive paperweights" that require specialized robotics engineers to fix or update.

Backed by Fly Ventures and Firstminute Capital, the company is currently testing its technology with manufacturing businesses. In a trial involving hard drive material extraction, the startup reported that its method reduced the time required to teach a robot a new task from one full day to just 10 minutes.
