India and Morocco Expand Trade and Food Safety Ties
India and Morocco are diversifying bilateral trade and signing food safety agreements during the 7th Session of the India-Morocco Joint Commission in Rabat.
Jitin Prasada, India's Minister of State for Commerce and Industry and Electronics & Information Technology, is visiting Morocco from August 24 to 25 to co-chair the 7th Session of the India-Morocco Joint Commission. Working with Moroccan Secretary of State Omar Hejira, Prasada is leading discussions to diversify bilateral trade, expand market access, and create new industrial cooperation opportunities.
The two nations are focusing on renewable energy, digital transformation, healthcare, and fertilizer production. As part of the diplomatic visit, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India and Morocco's National Office of Food Safety are expected to sign a Memorandum of Understanding on food safety. The countries also plan to sign a Cultural Exchange Programme covering 2026 to 2030.
Bilateral merchandise trade reached approximately $4 billion in 2025. India's exports to Morocco consist primarily of pharmaceuticals and petroleum, while Morocco's exports to India are dominated by fertilizers and phosphates.
