Bert Mizusawa Wins Virginia Republican Senate Primary

Bert Mizusawa won the Republican primary for the U.S. Senate in Virginia on Tuesday, securing the nomination to challenge incumbent Democratic Senator Mark Warner in the November general election. The Associated Press called the race after Mizusawa reached just over 53,000 ballots, defeating candidates David Williams and Kim Farington.

Mizusawa is a retired U.S. Army Major General and former Deputy Under Secretary of the Army with professional experience in law and federal contracting. He now faces Mark Warner, a moderate former governor first elected in 2008 who is seeking a fourth term. Warner has stated that a victory in the upcoming election will be his final term in office. Independent analysts currently rate the Senate seat as safely blue.
