General Motors Creates $4.5 Billion Facility to Secure Parts
General Motors established a $4.5 billion purchasing facility with Procura Auto Parts to secure critical automotive components and mitigate supply chain disruptions.
General Motors established a purchasing facility worth up to $4.5 billion to secure critical automotive parts and prevent future supply chain disruptions. The initiative utilizes a financial structure that allows the automaker to secure future supplies while keeping inventory costs off its balance sheets.
Under the agreement, Procura Auto Parts, a specialist in sourcing rare components, will prepay suppliers on behalf of the automaker. Funding for these prepayments will be provided by a bank syndicate led by JPMorgan Chase and Banco Santander. General Motors has issued formal promises to repay Procura Auto Parts by July 31, 2029, once the acquired parts have been used in production.
The move follows years of global supply chain instability and a broader strategic shift among automakers to reduce reliance on Chinese companies. This transition is largely driven by the imposition of U.S. tariffs on imported components.
