Indonesia Records US$3.58 Billion Trade Surplus for First Half 2026

Statistics Indonesia reported a trade surplus of US$3.58 billion for the first half of 2026, despite a US$450 million trade deficit recorded in June.

The Government of Indonesia reported a cumulative trade surplus of US$3.58 billion for the first half of 2026. According to Statistics Indonesia, total exports rose 4.13 percent year-on-year to US$140.81 billion, driven by the manufacturing industry. This growth was bolstered by a US$19.35 billion surplus in non-oil and gas commodities, which offset a US$15.77 billion deficit in the oil and gas sector.

Despite the six-month gain, the country faced recent volatility. Indonesia recorded a trade deficit of US$450 million in June 2026, as imports of US$25.91 billion exceeded exports of US$25.46 billion. This followed May data that showed a larger trade deficit of US$1.61 billion, characterized by a 22.16 percent year-on-year rise in imports and a 5.73 percent drop in exports.

These economic updates coincided with a positive outlook for the Indonesian stock market. The Jakarta Composite Index closed Friday at 6,236.13, supported by gains in infrastructure, industrial, and agricultural sectors. Market sentiment was further influenced by strong performance on Wall Street and rising crude oil prices following strikes by the military of Iran on U.S. assets in Bahrain and Kuwait.
