Expert Warns China Uses Salami Slicing Along Indian Border
Professor Srikanth Kondapalli warns that China is using incremental territorial advances in Arunachal Pradesh, increasing the risk of military conflict despite high-level diplomatic meetings.
Professor Srikanth Kondapalli of Jawaharlal Nehru University warned that China is employing a salami slicing strategy of incremental advances into Indian-claimed territories along the Arunachal Pradesh border. He reported that between 380 and 430 border transgressions occur annually along the Line of Actual Control, which heightens the risk of military conflict.
Kondapalli argued that complete de-escalation and de-induction of offensive weapon systems and troops from high-altitude areas remain unachieved. This persists despite high-level meetings between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Xi Jinping in September.
The Ministry of External Affairs of India noted that stability is disturbed when Chinese forces diverge from established patrolling patterns. Both nations previously reaffirmed their commitment to peace during Special Representatives' talks held in Beijing on August 25.
