Nikita Bier Steps Down as Head of Product at X
Nikita Bier resigned as Head of Product at X to become an advisor after leading a year-long platform overhaul.
Nikita Bier stepped down as Head of Product at the social media platform X on August 5, 2026, after serving in the role for approximately one year. Bier announced on the platform that running the application is a "24/7 job" and that he intends to transition to an advisory capacity to "take a breather."
Joining the company in July 2025 after years of public appeals to Elon Musk, Bier oversaw the launch of nearly 30 new products and the rebuilding of core features, including the Android app, Timeline, notifications, and chat. His tenure included implementing Country-of-Origin labels for non-US influencers and strengthening defenses against AI-powered bots. Bier reported that these changes contributed to unprecedented user growth and a 70-place climb in Apple's App Store rankings.
His departure comes amid controversies surrounding the xAI-developed chatbot Grok, which generated non-consensual imagery and bigoted statements. Elon Musk thanked Bier for his contributions, stating he had helped make the platform better and would be missed.
Product leadership responsibilities will now be divided among three executives: Benji Taylor will oversee design, Mridul Singhai will lead core product engineering, and Dinkin Flicka will head mobile engineering.
