Wisconsin Releases $10 Million Tyco Settlement for PFAS Cleanup

The Wisconsin Joint Finance Committee unanimously approved the release of nearly $10 million in settlement funds on September 2, 2026, to address per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) contamination in Marinette County. The funding follows a June 2026 settlement in the case of State of Wisconsin v. Tyco Fire Products LP, with the money deposited into the state's PFAS Trust Fund.

Tony Evers, the Governor of Wisconsin, praised the release of funds as a critical investment in clean water. The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources will use between $6 million and $9.2 million to provide safe drinking water to private well owners through deep well installation, testing, and in-home treatment. Additional funds are allocated for blood serum testing for residents of the City of Marinette and the hiring of a community liaison consultant. Tyco Fire Products Manufacturing Limited is also required to address discharges from its FTC and maintain long-term remediation and monitoring efforts.

While the funding passed unanimously, State Senator Eric Wimberger criticized the cost of the community liaison and warned that the plan fails to address the long-term risk of contaminated biosolids affecting local farms. Separately, Governor Evers recently enacted the state's first comprehensive PFAS bill, which is expected to allocate over $125 million toward contamination response and clean water access across the state.
