U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean P. Duffy announced a $615 million investment to modernize airport infrastructure across 42 states and two territories. The funding is distributed through 238 grants via the Airport Improvement program, focusing on runway and taxiway rehabilitation, airfield safety upgrades, and the addition of family-friendly terminal features.
Specific allocations include $21.5 million for the Midland International Air & Space Port in Texas, $19.5 million for a new airport in Noatak, Alaska, and $15.3 million for noise mitigation at San Diego International Airport. Additional grants will fund a new contract tower in Indiana, a new terminal in Virginia, runway extensions in North Carolina, and passenger boarding bridges in California.
Officials stated the investment aims to make travel safer and more efficient during a period of record-high American travel. FAA Administrator Bryan Bedford noted that the grants prioritize safety and efficiency to transform the passenger travel experience.
