Nasdaq Hits All-Time High Amid AI Rally and M&A
The Nasdaq Composite reached a record high of 27,409.21 on Monday as AI stocks rallied and major industrial software acquisitions were announced.
The Nasdaq Composite reached an all-time high of 27,409.21 on October 5, 2026, closing 1.1% higher. The rally was driven by optimism over artificial intelligence spending and resilient consumer spending, with SpaceX gaining 5% and Nvidia reaching a new record. The Nasdaq 100 also hit a new peak, while the S&P 500 and Dow Jones Industrial Average posted modest gains.
Corporate activity contributed to the momentum as Schneider Electric agreed to acquire U.S. software maker PTC for nearly $23 billion to expand its AI industrial-software portfolio. In the logistics sector, C.H. Robinson agreed to purchase rival RXO for approximately $5.8 billion.
Market gains occurred despite significant headwinds in the bond and currency markets. Ten-year Treasury yields hit a two-decade high of 5.31%, driven by persistent inflation concerns and expectations of aggressive Federal Reserve interest rate hikes. Simultaneously, the euro fell to its weakest level since May 2025 due to fiscal worries and political upheaval in Europe.
Commodity prices shifted following a G-7 agreement to implement a coordinated crude-oil release, which caused Brent crude futures to decline by about 2% to $100.32 per barrel. Economic data provided a mixed backdrop, with the Institute for Supply Management reporting a September services-sector PMI of 54.9% and S&P Global data indicating healthy business demand.
