Max Miller Faces Domestic Abuse Allegations and Calls for Resignation

Republican Representative Max Miller of Ohio's 7th District is facing allegations of domestic violence and child abuse brought by his ex-wife, Emily Moreno. Police reports indicate Moreno alleged Miller held a gun to her head, threw hot water on her, and caused their two-year-old daughter to suffer a fractured collarbone. Miller denies all claims, asserting they are part of a pattern of false accusations intended to gain leverage in custody matters. He has filed a defamation lawsuit against Moreno and claimed she suffers from bipolar disorder.

Additional allegations of abuse were previously made by former White House press secretary Stephanie Grisham, which resulted in a confidential settlement and a subsequent lawsuit by Grisham against Miller. In response to the current claims, the Democratic Women’s Caucus and the advocacy group Giffords have called for a House Ethics Committee investigation and Miller's resignation or expulsion.

House Speaker Mike Johnson has declined to intervene, stating the claims remain allegations and that he does not get involved in the personal lives of members. While Ohio Governor Mike DeWine described the accusations as troubling, the GOP has not called for Miller to withdraw from his reelection race. The legal and political turmoil has affected the race's outlook, with Cook Political Report downgrading the district from Solid Republican to Likely Republican following tight internal polling.
