Great Yorkshire Show Opens with Record 150,000 Visitors
The Yorkshire Agricultural Society launched the 167th Great Yorkshire Show in Harrogate, featuring livestock competitions, agricultural innovation awards, and emergency response planning.
The 167th Great Yorkshire Show opened on July 14 at the Great Yorkshire Showground in Harrogate. Organized by the Yorkshire Agricultural Society, the four-day event is sold out and expects a record 150,000 visitors. The program features livestock competitions involving 8,500 animals, including the British Charolais Cattle Society National Show and the Zwartbles National Championship, which was won by Mrs H Jackson. Harden Clough Nursery received the Doncaster Cup for Best in Show.
The expanded Agri-Innovation Village showcased new technologies, such as a Toyota hydrogen-powered Hilux prototype and a New Holland T7 280 biomethane-powered tractor. In the Innovation Awards, Bennamann won the overall prize for a biogas upgrade solution. The event also provided a platform for the newly formed Wildfire Response Team to present emergency response plans for the northern uplands.
Entertainment and public engagement included daily chat shows on the Ariat GYS Stage featuring rural television personalities such as Kelvin and Liz Fletcher, who also presented awards in the sheep rings. Show Director Rachel Coates described the event as a highlight of the year for exhibitors and visitors, emphasizing the breadth of farming and countryside features on offer.
