RSF Drone Strike Kills 41 Displaced People in Sudan

The Rapid Support Forces killed 41 civilians, including eight children, in a drone strike targeting a displacement shelter in Sudan's Blue Nile province.

The Rapid Support Forces carried out a drone strike on Friday in the Abu Shandi area of Sudan's Blue Nile province, killing 41 people at a displacement shelter. The attack targeted civilians who had fled ongoing fighting to seek safety near the Ethiopian border. According to the Emergency Lawyers Group, the dead include eight children, and 26 women suffered serious injuries.

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs expressed horror at the strike, noting that the region had been under sustained attack in recent weeks. Denise Brown, the U.N. resident and humanitarian coordinator, called for accountability for the "flagrant disregard for international humanitarian law."

This incident is part of a broader power struggle between the Sudanese army and the paramilitary group that began in April 2023. Conflict monitor ACLED reports the war has killed at least 150,000 people and displaced over 12.4 million. The UN further noted that drone operations have caused the majority of civilian deaths in the conflict, accounting for over 80 percent of civilian fatalities in early 2026.
