Apple Simplifies M5 MacBook Pro Battery Replacement Process

Apple Inc. has redesigned the battery replacement process for the 14-inch M5 MacBook Pro, allowing users to swap the battery without removing the trackpad or top case. The company updated its official repair guides and the Self Service Repair program to reflect this shift, which now requires only the removal of the back cover and the disconnection of the battery management unit flex cable.

This design change was first revealed through a teardown by iFixit. The updated process is expected to be implemented in future M5 Pro and M5 Max MacBook Pro models as well.

Apple is selling standalone replacement battery modules through its Self Service Repair Store for $209.25, and provides a $22.50 credit for returned old batteries. This represents a significant cost reduction for consumers compared to previous models, where replacing the battery often necessitated replacing the entire top case at a cost of $500 or more.
