State DOTs Implement Highway Closures in Wisconsin and Virginia

Two state transportation agencies have implemented significant traffic restrictions to facilitate interstate infrastructure projects. In Wisconsin, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation began a series of closures on I-43 in Sheboygan County starting July 20, 2026. These measures include the closure of both northbound on-and-off ramps at Highway V through Tuesday evening, as well as staggered closures of ramps connecting Highway 28 to I-43 through Wednesday. Concurrent signage work on eastbound Highway 23 between County Road Y and Taylor Drive has further restricted traffic to two lanes.

Simultaneously, the Virginia Department of Transportation is managing overnight restrictions on Interstate 81 near Staunton to support a widening project that will add a third lane in both directions between Exit 221 and Exit 225. Scheduled closures for Tuesday and Thursday nights include the Route 250 on-ramp and the southbound Exit 221 ramp to I-64 eastbound, accompanied by rolling roadblocks. The agency expects northbound lanes to open in late fall 2026, with the entire project concluding in summer 2027.
