OpenAI Hires SpaceX Executive Brian McCarthy to Lead Global Sales

OpenAI has created the role of vice president of worldwide sales and appointed Brian McCarthy to the position. McCarthy joins the company from SpaceX, where he served as president of global revenue and worldwide field operations. In his new role, he will report to chief revenue officer Dali Rajic, a former colleague from their time at AppDynamics.

The appointment aims to accelerate OpenAI's enterprise growth and international expansion as the company competes with Anthropic for corporate adoption of frontier AI models. This push for increased revenue streams comes ahead of a projected initial public offering scheduled for next year.

Recent data from Ramp suggests OpenAI is gaining ground in the corporate sector, with its Astra model surpassing Anthropic's Fable model in enterprise spending.
