The Monetary Authority of Singapore announced a S$220 million ($173 million) funding program to be deployed over the next three years to advance financial technology and innovation. The initiative focuses on the development and deployment of frontier technologies, specifically artificial intelligence, to ensure the city-state remains a leader in the global financial technology landscape.
This program marks the fourth renewal of a fintech scheme that originally began in 2015. The current investment aims to support at least 1,000 internships and prepare the financial sector for AI integration.
Deputy Prime Minister Gan Kim Yong stated that the investment is intended to capture new growth opportunities. He noted that Singapore competes not just with Hong Kong but the rest of the world, emphasizing the need for the sector to get even better to maintain its edge against other global financial hubs.
