Marie Gluesenkamp Perez Wins Reelection in Washington's 3rd District

Democratic Representative Marie Gluesenkamp Perez defeated Republican John Braun to retain her seat in Washington's 3rd Congressional District.

Democratic Representative Marie Gluesenkamp Perez won reelection to Washington's 3rd Congressional District, defeating Republican State Senator John Braun. The Associated Press projected the result on Wednesday morning, with final margins showing Gluesenkamp Perez leading by approximately nine to 11 percentage points. The victory secures a Democratic hold on a seat previously considered one of 18 pure toss-ups nationwide.

Gluesenkamp Perez, an auto repair shop owner and co-chair of the moderate Blue Dog Coalition, campaigned on her blue-collar roots and local loyalty. Her moderate approach has helped her survive in a pro-Trump district, though it has caused friction with her own party. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries previously characterized her decision to side with Republicans on two procedural votes in September as a "breach of trust."

Republican challenger John Braun, a Navy veteran and Senate minority leader endorsed by Donald Trump, did not concede on election night. He noted that Washington state results typically take several days to finalize and emphasized the independent nature of the district. The race was highly contested, with both parties spending more than $20 million to influence the outcome.
