UK Launches MOT Photo Uploads and Digital Licence Integration

The Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) began a national rollout on August 3, 2026, allowing MOT testers at approximately 2,500 garages to optionally upload vehicle photos via mobile devices. This feature serves to verify that vehicles are physically present during testing. The agency noted that trials indicated the feature is straightforward to use and has little to no impact on overall testing times, while helping identify opportunities to improve the service.

Simultaneously, the Government Digital Service and the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency are integrating digital driving licences and a chat feature into the GOV.UK App. This integration allows motorists to access driver and vehicle information directly through the application.

Further regulatory changes are expected this month as the Department for Transport prepares responses to road safety consultations that concluded in May. These responses are expected to include the mandating of 18 vehicle safety technologies for all mass-produced vehicles.
