Anthropic Implements Digital Watermarking for Claude AI Text
Anthropic has introduced invisible digital watermarks for all Claude AI text outputs, sparking a wave of fraudulent watermark-removal software.
Anthropic announced on August 11, 2026, the implementation of digital watermarking for all text generated by its Claude AI. The system employs a statistical uplift method that patterns word choices to create a signal invisible to humans but detectable by authorized tools.
The company stated it is working to enable users and third parties to detect these embedded watermarks and provenance metadata. However, because no public verification tool currently exists, users cannot independently confirm if the watermarks are present in specific texts.
This rollout has triggered a surge in fraudulent software. Scammers are deploying deceptive applications that claim to remove Claude's watermarks but instead infect computers with viruses or mislead users with false technical claims.
