A resident of Socorro is campaigning against GO Bond 3, a proposal that would allocate $48 million to the New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology administration and regents for campus building upgrades.
Marsha Sabol expressed her opposition in a letter to the editor, citing a lack of confidence in the university's financial management. Sabol pointed to the April closure of the campus pool, which officials stated required $1 million in repairs, while alleging the administration spent thousands on a city pool instead.
Sabol further alleged that the administration previously fired a president who discovered financial malfeasance. She also criticized the university for entering a letter of intent for a data center with a company she described as unproven.
