T-Mobile to Automatically Migrate Millions from Legacy Rate Plans

T-Mobile US, Inc. is retiring 1,100 legacy phone plans starting July 13 and automatically moving affected subscribers to current pricing tiers.

Starting July 13, T-Mobile US, Inc. will automatically migrate millions of customers from approximately 1,100 legacy rate plans to modern pricing tiers. The transition targets grandfathered accounts from the 3G and 4G eras, including Simple Choice, T-Mobile One, and legacy Sprint plans, while discontinuing the KickBack discount for low data usage.

Company executives state the move is necessary to modernize internal billing systems and optimize services for the 5G network. Affected subscribers are being notified via text, email, and the T-Life app. T-Mobile claims the transition provides a five-year price guarantee and that most customers will be moved to rates below current market rack prices.

Despite the company describing the changes as a "modest adjustment," customers have reported varied price increases. While some reports indicate hikes of $4 to $6 per line, some social media users claim their monthly bills increased by over $20. T-Mobile leadership has suggested that customers unhappy with the new plans should consider alternative providers.
