Hyundai Delays Boston Dynamics IPO Due to Losses
Hyundai Motor Group is unlikely to take Boston Dynamics public in 2027 as the robotics firm struggles with profitability and scaling its Atlas robots.
Hyundai Motor Group is unlikely to pursue an initial public offering for its subsidiary Boston Dynamics in 2027. A senior executive at the parent company attributed the delay to a lack of profitability and the fact that flagship Atlas robots have not yet been deployed at scale.
Financial records show Boston Dynamics recorded a loss of 528.4 billion won in 2025, contributing to total losses of nearly 1.7 trillion won since 2021. To address these challenges, Hyundai Motor Group plans to build a factory capable of producing 30,000 robots annually by 2028 and intends to deploy them at its Georgia plant that same year.
Analysts suggest a public listing is more probable in 2029 or 2030, providing the company time to improve robot capabilities and gather operational data before broad commercialization. Hyundai Motor Group recently moved toward full ownership of the robotics firm by acquiring a roughly 10 percent stake from SoftBank Group in July.
