Nirmala Sitharaman Visits Qatar for AIIB Annual Meeting
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman arrived in Doha to attend the 11th Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank annual meeting and hold bilateral talks with global finance leaders.
Indian Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman arrived in Doha, Qatar, on September 28 to participate in the 11th Annual Meeting of the Board of Governors of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) and the AIIB Investors Dialogue 2026. Serving as the Indian Governor to the AIIB, Sitharaman represents India, which is the second-largest shareholder of the multilateral development bank.
Leading a delegation of Ministry of Finance officials, Sitharaman is scheduled to hold bilateral meetings with the AIIB President and finance counterparts from Saudi Arabia, Switzerland, Jordan, Algeria, and Nepal. Her itinerary also includes meetings with the leadership of the Government of Qatar and engagements with Qatari investors and business leaders.
The visit follows a March meeting between Sitharaman and AIIB President Zou Jiayi regarding the acceleration of infrastructure projects in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, as well as scaling investments in low-income member countries. The diplomatic engagement occurs amid strong energy ties between India and Qatar, highlighted by a 20-year LNG agreement between QatarEnergy and Petronet LNG.
