Kansas City Fed President Warns AI Scale Risks Systemic Failure
Jeff Schmid warns that the massive financial scale of the AI buildout could create systemic risks and make the industry too big to fail.
Jeff Schmid, President of the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City, warned that the financial scale of the artificial intelligence buildout requires close monitoring to prevent systemic risks. Speaking at a conference hosted by his bank on August 4, Schmid suggested that the industry's growth may be reaching a scale that warrants macro-level discussions regarding whether the AI sector is becoming "too big to fail."
Schmid emphasized the need to correlate current AI developments with previous financial experiences that led to systemic problems. He argued that the pure scale of the AI industry could create a systemic problem similar to past financial crises.
