Midterm Voting Begins in San Diego and Maui Counties
Voters in San Diego County and Maui County have begun casting ballots for the 2026 midterm elections through mail-in and in-person voting centers.
Voting for the 2026 midterm elections has commenced in both San Diego County and Maui County, with officials implementing various mail-in and in-person systems to facilitate the process.
In San Diego County, early voting and in-person Vote Centers opened on October 24. All registered voters in the county receive a mail-in ballot, which can be returned via the U.S. Postal Service, official drop-off boxes, or Vote Centers. Ballots must be postmarked by Election Day, November 3, and received by the Registrar of Voters by November 10.
In Maui County, nearly 12,000 of the 117,689 registered voters had returned their ballots by October 23. The Maui County Clerk’s Office has set a deadline of 7 p.m. on November 3 for ballots to be received. To ensure timely delivery, officials recommend mailing ballots by October 27. The Maui ballot includes eight proposed amendments to the County of Maui Charter alongside two Hawaii constitutional amendments.
Both jurisdictions are utilizing tracking technology to ensure vote integrity. The California Secretary of State provides the "Where's My Ballot?" service via BallotTrax for San Diego voters, while registered voters in Maui with email addresses are similarly enrolled in BallotTrax to receive notifications regarding processing or envelope deficiencies.
