Iowa Resident Questions Data Center Expansion Impacts
Kathy Geronzin raised concerns over the environmental and economic costs of expanding data centers in Iowa and across the United States.
Kathy Geronzin, a resident of Cedar Rapids, questioned the proliferation of data centers and their broader impact on Iowa and the United States. She raised concerns regarding the consumption of water and electricity, as well as the resulting noise, light pollution, and loss of agricultural land.
Geronzin called for transparency regarding community impacts before further construction continues. Her concerns include the potential for increased tax burdens, inflation, and heightened traffic congestion.
In a separate matter, a response to a letter by George Bakken challenged his claims regarding atmospheric CO2. The response utilized data from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration to argue that Bakken exaggerated the rate of CO2 concentration growth and the direct attribution of heat, drought, and wildfires to those increases.
