Google Develops Gemini AI for Personal Phone Calls

Google is developing an expansion of its Call for Me feature for Gemini that would allow the AI to make personal phone calls to friends and family. While the current version of the tool is limited to business interactions, such as managing appointments or checking business hours, APK teardowns of the Phone app reveal work-in-progress software for Gemini Calling.

This proposed functionality would enable the AI to relay simple messages or ask basic questions, such as informing a parent that a user will be late or coordinating dinner plans with a friend. The feature is not yet publicly available, and testers have been unable to activate it even in hacked builds.

To use the existing business-focused version, users currently require a Pixel 11 device, a US SIM card, and a Gemini subscription. To address privacy and consent, the current system identifies the AI at the start of calls and provides an opt-out option for recipients.
