Boeing Reports Q2 Loss Despite Record 715 Billion Backlog

The Boeing Company reported a second-quarter net loss of 428 million dollars driven by Air Force One cost overruns despite increasing commercial delivery volumes.

The Boeing Company reported second quarter 2026 revenue of 24.6 billion dollars, an 8 percent increase over the previous year, while recording a net loss of 428 million dollars. The loss exceeded analyst expectations and was driven largely by a 280 million dollar charge for higher engineering costs on the VC-25B Air Force One replacement program, which is currently more than 1 billion dollars over budget and four years behind schedule.

Despite the quarterly deficit, Boeing achieved an operating cash flow of 1.4 billion dollars and grew its total company backlog to a record 715 billion dollars. The Commercial Airplanes segment delivered 171 aircraft and is transitioning 737 production to a rate of 47 per month. The company expects certification for 737-7 and 737-10 variants in 2026 and received approval from the Federal Aviation Administration to begin certification flight testing for the 777X program.

Operational challenges persist as the Federal Aviation Administration proposed a directive for checks on 453 Boeing 737 MAX jets in the U.S. after discovering incorrectly installed passenger seats that pose evacuation risks. To support recovery, Boeing is expanding facilities in Missouri and South Carolina. CEO Kelly Ortberg stated that operations are more stable and the company remains focused on safety and quality.
