Azerbaijan Expands Strategic Ties With Tajikistan and Turkmenistan
President Ilham Aliyev and Azerbaijani diplomats held high-level meetings with Tajik and Turkmen officials to strengthen regional trade, logistics, and parliamentary cooperation.
Azerbaijan conducted a series of diplomatic engagements on September 25 to deepen strategic partnerships across Central Asia. In Baku, Ilham Aliyev, President of Azerbaijan, met with Tajik Prime Minister Kokhir Rasulzoda to advance economic and logistical integration. The leaders focused on utilizing the Middle Corridor to transit Tajik goods to international markets and discussed cooperation in metallurgy, agriculture, and energy. Prime Minister Rasulzoda expressed interest in adopting Azerbaijan's ASAN Khidmet public service model in Tajikistan and noted the importance of educational quotas provided to Tajik students.
Simultaneously, Azerbaijan strengthened its legislative ties with Turkmenistan. Ambassador Gismat Gozalov met with officials from the Mejlis of Turkmenistan in Ashgabat to discuss the future of interparliamentary cooperation. The talks emphasized the need for increased direct contact between deputies and friendship groups to build upon a 2022 Memorandum on Cooperation and a June 2026 state visit by President Serdar Berdimuhamedov.
Both sets of discussions leaned on existing frameworks, with the Tajikistan meeting referencing the 2024 Declaration on Strategic Partnership and the Turkmenistan talks focusing on mutual support within international parliamentary platforms.
