IMF Approves Final $371 Million Disbursement for Ghana

The International Monetary Fund executive board completed the sixth and final review of Ghana's 39-month, $3 billion Extended Credit Facility program on July 28, 2026. This approval allows for a final disbursement of approximately $371 million to the Ghanaian government.

Initiated in 2022, the program aimed to resolve a severe economic crisis involving high inflation and unsustainable debt. The government of Ghana focused on fiscal consolidation, monetary policy stabilization, and debt restructuring to achieve these goals. The IMF noted that Ghana's stabilization resulted from sustained internal reform efforts combined with favorable global commodity prices for crude oil, cocoa, and gold.

While the disbursement provides immediate liquidity and signals Ghana's exit from the program, the IMF cautioned that long-term stability requires continued structural reforms and fiscal discipline.
