India Smartphone Exports Hit Record 9.84 Billion Dollars

India's smartphone exports reached a record 9.84 billion dollars in early FY27, driven by Apple shipments and government production incentives.

India's smartphone exports reached a record high of $9.84 billion in the first quarter of FY27, marking a 23.4 percent increase over the previous year. This surge, primarily driven by Apple iPhone shipments to the United States, accounts for 64.8 percent of the country's total electronics exports. Manufacturing partners such as Foxconn Hon Hai and Samsung have been central to this growth, with Foxconn reporting a 48 percent year-on-year export rise in 2025.

The Government of India has catalyzed this expansion through several strategic initiatives, including the production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme and the PLI-LSEM, which attracted approximately Rs 96,000 crore in investments. Over the last decade, mobile phone exports increased 165-fold, rising from roughly ₹1,500 crore in 2014-15 to ₹2.59 lakh crore in 2025-26. Smartphones have now surpassed petroleum, gems, and jewellery to become the top exported individual commodity.

Domestic production has also scaled rapidly, with 99.2% of mobile phones used in India now produced locally, making the country the world's second-largest mobile manufacturer by volume. To sustain this momentum and the Atmanirbhar Bharat vision, the government launched the Semicon India Programme in 2022 and recently approved Semicon 2.0. These efforts aim to bolster the semiconductor ecosystem, supporting companies like Micron and Sahasra in producing memory chips to meet global AI and data center demand.
