Phil Scott Holds Slim Lead in Vermont Governor's Race
Republican Governor Phil Scott maintains a 3-point lead over Democratic challenger Amanda Janoo in a tight race for Vermont's governorship.
Republican Governor Phil Scott holds a narrow 3-point lead over Democratic and Progressive nominee Amanda Janoo as Vermont prepares for the November 3 election. A State Navigate poll of 1,752 likely voters shows Scott with 49% support and Janoo with 46%, while Scott maintains a 58% job approval rating.
Janoo is campaigning on a platform to address an affordability crisis through investments in local farms, businesses, and affordable housing. She proposes universal primary and preventative care and warns that Medicaid cuts from the One Big Beautiful Bill will harm residents. Janoo argues that the state cannot solve its current problems using the same thinking that created them.
Scott emphasizes his business experience and efforts to limit tax increases while working with a Democratic-led legislature. He opposes raising taxes on high-income households and argues that universal healthcare is a national responsibility. Scott has warned that a new governor might engage in unproductive conflict with the Trump administration, potentially risking federal cooperation.
Other candidates in the race include June Goodband, Brian Judd, and Dean Roy. In the race for lieutenant governor, Democrat Molly Gray leads incumbent Republican John Rodgers 58% to 37%.
