SGI Appoints Global Traffic Group to Restore Speed Cameras

Saskatchewan Government Insurance (SGI) will resume photo speed enforcement operations in August after a two-month outage. The program became inactive at the end of May 2026 when Redflex Traffic Systems Ltd., also known as Verra Mobility Systems, abruptly terminated its contract with the Crown corporation. This termination followed a contract termination notice from Avis Budget Group, which coincided with a drop in the company's stock value.

To restore services, SGI secured Global Traffic Group Ltd. as the new vendor. The transition requires a hardware overhaul, replacing existing grey metal boxes with new pole-mounted cameras. SGI stated that the program will maintain the same fine amounts, signage, and previously approved locations across Regina, Saskatoon, Moose Jaw, and near Wakaw. While police continued manual enforcement during the hiatus, cameras in specific work zones, including Regina's Wascana Parkway and Saskatoon's Circle Drive South Bridge, remained operational throughout the transition.

The program previously utilized nine cameras across the province to encourage drivers to slow down in high-risk areas. SGI confirmed that the new vendor will begin operations in August to resume these safety efforts.
