Australia Private Sector Growth Hits Yearly High in July
S&P Global reports Australia's private sector momentum rose to a 52.6 flash composite output index in July, driven by strong domestic services growth.
Australia's private sector experienced its strongest growth since the beginning of the year in July. The flash composite output index rose to 52.6 from 50.4 in June, according to data from S&P Global. This expansion was primarily led by the services sector, which saw its business activity index climb to 53.0, marking the fastest growth since January. The manufacturing sector also posted a slight increase, with its PMI rising to 51.7 from 51.5.
New business growth returned for the first time in five months, although this recovery was domestically driven as international export sales declined more sharply. Hiring accelerated to its strongest pace since April across both sectors as companies worked to address rising backlogs.
Despite the growth, business confidence remains near a two-and-a-half-year low. While input cost inflation slowed to its softest rate since February, potentially influencing the rate outlook for the Reserve Bank of Australia, economists note that the recovery is fragile and heavily reliant on internal demand.
