Peter Obi Vows to Jail Election Riggers in 2027

Peter Obi pledged to imprison electoral fraudsters and enforce strict academic verification for candidates if elected president of Nigeria in 2027.

Presidential candidate Peter Obi warned that individuals who manipulate the 2027 general elections will face severe legal consequences. Speaking at a Nigeria Democratic Congress town hall meeting in Nasarawa State on Wednesday, Obi stated, "this coming election, we will rig those who rig it."

Obi pledged to eliminate electoral fraud by strengthening political parties and reforming the electoral process. He specifically targeted officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission, promising to prosecute and jail any official found guilty of rigging under his administration. He emphasized that his government would ensure the rule of law applies to everyone from the highest official to the last citizen.

Additionally, Obi proposed stricter eligibility requirements for elective office. He mandated that candidates provide visible proof of attending both primary and secondary school, vowing that anyone who forges academic certificates or falsely claims qualifications will go to jail.
