Office of Congressional Conduct Clears Ilhan Omar of Disclosure Errors

The Office of Congressional Conduct recommended dismissing allegations that Representative Ilhan Omar reported false financial information after an investigation into her overstated wealth.

The Office of Congressional Conduct cleared Representative Ilhan Omar of wrongdoing following an investigation into financial disclosure documents that significantly overstated her wealth. In a 5-1 vote, the board recommended that the House Ethics Committee dismiss allegations that Omar reported false or incomplete information.

An initial filing from last year listed assets between $6 million and $30 million. An amended filing later corrected accounting errors to show assets between $18,004 and $95,000. The discrepancy resulted from the valuation of businesses owned by Omar's husband, Tim Mynett, which were listed as having no value once liabilities were factored in.

Republicans and Donald Trump had previously scrutinized the wealth jump, with House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer suggesting a subpoena for Mynett. Omar's office stated she has received no communication regarding pending investigations from the Justice Department or the House Ethics Committee.
