Kansas Gubernatorial Race Too Close to Call After Election

Democratic candidate Cindy Holscher holds a narrow lead over Republican Ty Masterson as Kansas tabulates final ballots in a tight gubernatorial race.

The race to succeed Governor Laura Kelly in Kansas remains undecided as officials tabulate final ballots. Cindy Holscher, a Democratic state senator, currently leads Republican state senator Ty Masterson by 5,872 votes, according to data from the Kansas Secretary of State’s Office. Holscher has 546,523 votes (50.3%) compared to Masterson's 540,651 votes (49.7%).

The final outcome depends on two remaining precincts, provisional ballots, and mail-in ballots arriving by Friday. Holscher expressed confidence in her lead during an event in Johnson County. Conversely, Masterson spoke in Wichita, warning that the narrow margin could lead to legal challenges.

The candidates diverge on school vouchers and Medicaid expansion, though both agree on the necessity of increasing job growth and lowering property taxes.
