Pakistan Coordinates Diplomatic and Military Ties to Counter Regional Volatility
Pakistan's Foreign Minister held talks with Egypt and Türkiye to address US-Iran escalation while Turkish military leadership visited Pakistan to strengthen defense cooperation.
The Government of Pakistan launched a series of diplomatic and military engagements on June 11, 2026, to address rising regional volatility following renewed airstrikes between the United States and Iran. These strikes occurred despite an April ceasefire intended to end a conflict that began in February.
Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Pakistan's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, held telephone conversations with the foreign ministers of Egypt and Türkiye. Dar and Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty emphasized the need for negotiations to prevent a wider regional conflict. Abdelatty invited Dar to the fourth meeting of the Regional Four (R-4) quadrilateral mechanism—including Egypt, Pakistan, Türkiye, and Saudi Arabia—to be hosted in Egypt later in June. In a separate call with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, Dar stressed the importance of dialogue and restraint.
Simultaneously, General Metin Tokel, Commander of the Turkish Land Forces, visited Pakistan to deepen bilateral defense cooperation. In Rawalpindi, Tokel met with Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir at General Headquarters. The visit continued in Islamabad with meetings involving Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif, Admiral Naveed Ashraf, and Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu. These discussions focused on maritime security, the Pakistan-Turkiye High-Level Military Dialogue Group, and defense-industrial cooperation to promote regional stability.
