Democrats Poised to Dominate Colorado Congressional Delegation
Democrats are set to take control of Colorado's congressional seats following a blue wave midterm election on November 4, 2026.
The Colorado Democratic Party is poised to dominate the state's congressional delegation following a blue wave midterm election on November 4, 2026. The previous four-to-four split between parties shifted after Democrat Manny Rutinel defeated Republican Congressman Gabe Evans in the 8th District.
As of Wednesday evening, Republicans Lauren Boebert and Jeff Crank trailed Democratic opponents Eileen Laubacher and Jessica Killin in the 4th and 5th districts, respectively. Republican Jeff Hurd maintained a thin lead in the 3rd District. Nationally, Democrats won control of both the House and Senate, a result attributed to voter repudiation of Donald Trump's agenda amid high prices and war in Iran.
Republican leaders expressed skepticism regarding the longevity of these gains. Former Colorado Republican Party chair Dick Wadhams characterized the shift as a stinging upset, while Aurora Mayor Mike Coffman predicted that the conservative 4th and 5th districts would eventually return to Republican control. Colorado Democratic Party Chair Shad Murib stated the party would not rest until every vote in every district is counted.
