Over 4,500 Afghan Refugees Return from Iran and Pakistan
The Government of Afghanistan repatriated 4,528 refugees from Iran and Pakistan during the first half of October 2026.
The Government of Afghanistan repatriated 4,528 individuals, comprising 987 families, during the first two weeks of October 2026. Deputy spokesman Hamdullah Fitrat announced on Saturday that the majority of these returnees arrived from Pakistan, with others returning from Iran.
To support the arriving families, the government provided immediate assistance including food, drinking water, healthcare services, and free transportation to their final destinations.
This recent influx is part of a larger repatriation trend. The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees reported in September that 6 million Afghan nationals have returned to the country in less than three years.
